Asbestos is one of, if not, the best insulation materials we know of. It is versatile and can be incorporated into virtually any construction material used. It is chemically inert and offers excellent resistance to acids and alkalis. It is also mechanically very strong.

Asbestos Awareness Training

Industrial Training Services Ltd

Can provide UKATA approved asbestos training courses category 1, 2, 3 to suit your needs. Our training courses are designed to complement the HSE's recommended asbestos training requirements and focuses heavily on how, in real terms, you protect your workforce and others from the effects of asbestosis's and other related diseases.

We provide asbestos training to new and existing personnel within the asbestos industry as well as for those persons whose day to day work brings them into contact with asbestos containing materials. The latter group of these now have a legal responsibility under the control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 to undergo asbestos awareness training.

Asbestos awareness training and the Removal (non-licensed) Asbestos training can be held either at your premises or at our purpose built training centre. Following completion of the course, delegates will be issued with a certificate valid for 12 months in line with HSE and UKATA guidelines for asbestos training.

Asbestos Training Courses

Asbestos awareness training is essential for employees whose work has the potential to expose them to asbestos. Regulation 10 of the control of asbestos regulations 2006 puts a requirement on employers to ensure that their staffs have undergone suitable asbestos awareness training. Following training they will be aware of the potential dangers they may face and also the procedures they must follow, when they are working in the vicinity of asbestos containing materials.

Frequently asked questions

What is asbestos?

It is a collective name for a group of naturally occurring fibrous minerals.

Why is it dangerous?

The fibres which make up the mineral are dangerous when breathed in. The fibres can be lodged in the lungs and the body's normal defences cannot break them down. Once lodged these fibres can cause scarring to the lung tissue and after a number of years it is possible for this scarring to develop into one or more serious conditions, some of which are fatal.

Can I work with Asbestos?

NO. Unless you have had the correct Asbestos training, in guidance and equipment, you should not carry out any work which is likely to disturb asbestos materials. If by your actions you expose anyone to asbestos fibres you and your employer are liable to prosecution resulting in a heavy fine and possible imprisonment.

What should I do if I find Asbestos?

Asbestos is only dangerous to your health when the fibres are breathed in. This can only happen if the fibres are airborne. The fibres are contained within the matrix of material. If the material is not disturbed then the fibres should not be released, so avoid disturbing asbestos containing materials at all costs.

Examples

Some examples of the type of materials to be removed with this training;
